The school requirement is the Fachoberschulreife (Realschulabschluss).

The training itself takes place at a PTA training school. These are - depending on the federal state - private colleges that charge fees or public colleges. You can find out the addresses at the pharmacy or at the relevant chamber of pharmacists (the local pharmacist has the telephone number).

The course of training is divided into two years of school attendance and a six-month internship in a pharmacy.

At the end of the two school years, a theoretical and practical examination is taken, and after the internship, another oral examination must be taken. Before you can work as a PTA in a pharmacy, you must apply for a professional licence.

Pharmacology and drug production, botany, basics of chemistry and analytics as well as law, dietetics, medical products and personal hygiene are the main contents of the practical and theoretical school education. In addition, physics, mathematics and basic knowledge of business administration are also taught.
